Ephram: Quanto mais as coisa mudam, mais elas ficam as mesmas. Não tenho certeza de quem foi o primeira pessoa a falar isso. Provavelmente Shakepeare, talvez Sting. Mas nesse momento, esta é a frase que melhor explica meu defeito trágico. Uma falta de habilidade em mudar.

Não acho que estou sozinho nisto. Quanto mais eu conheço as pessoas, mais eu percebo que é meio que o defeito de todos. Ficar sem mudar pelo máximo de tempo possível, ficar imóvel, nos faz sentir bem de alguma forma. E se você está sofrendo, pelo menos a dor é conhecida. Porque se você toma uma iniciativa, se abre, ou faz algo inesperado, quem sabe que outra dor pode estar esperando por você? Há chances que seja ainda pior.

Então você mantém seu status quo, escolhe a estrada já trilhada. Não parece tão ruim em relação aos defeitos. Você não é viciado em drogas, não está matando ninguém... exceto talvez um pouco você mesmo.

Quando nós finalmente mudamos, não acho que aconteça como um terremoto, ou uma explosão e de repente somos uma pessoa diferente. Acho que é menor do que isso. O tipo de coisa que a maioria das pessoas nem perceberia a não ser que olhasse muito de perto. O que, graças a Deus,elas nunca fazem.

Mas você percebe. Dentro de você essa diferença é enorme, e você espera que essa seja a pessoa que você será para sempre para que não tenha de mudar de novo.

I don't think I'm alone in this. The more I get to know other people, the more I realize it's kind of everyone's flaw. Staying exactly the same for as long as possible, standing perfectly still... it feels safer somehow. And if you are suffering, at least the pain is familiar. Because if you took that leap of faith, went outside the box, did something unexpected... who knows what other pain might be out there, waiting for you. Chances are it could be even worse.

So you maintain the status quo. Choose the road already traveled and it doesn't seem that bad. Not as far as flaws go. You're not a drug addict. You're not killing anyone... except maybe yourself a little.

When we finally do change, I don't think it happens like an earthquake or an explosion, where all of a sudden we're like this different person. I think it's smaller than that. The kind of thing most people wouldn't even notice unless they looked at us really close. Which, thank God, they never do.

But you notice it. Inside you that change feels like a world of difference. And you hope this is it. This is the person you get to be forever... that you'll never have to change again.
